scam??
I was looking in the Straits Times Classified for a job yesterday.
A couple of ads caught my attention :
One by an Events and Marketing Company ;
Two to “fish” for models ;
Many for tutors.
I decided to try for the first two options.
I went to the Events and Marketing Company,
and was requested to head down today for an “Orientation”.
(I did go for the orientation, but it’s not the kinda “Event” I am looking for.)
I went to both model agency.
1 at Parklane,
another at Whampoa.
The one at Parklane is professional.
At least, that’s the feeling I get from being there.
The one at Whampoa is…
YUCKS.
The “agency” is like a storeroom warehouse junkyard ALL OF THEM?
Anyhow…
The interview wasn’t an interview.
The “boss” was boasting about his career.
Oh yes, before I forget…
The boss is an actor.
BUT not the very popular type.
He doesn’t get awards. (At least I don’t remember him getting any.)
He does MINOR roles.
He does print ads. (not the big woah type though)
Ok, enough bout him.
He asked me to pay $1000 for a portfolio.
I did not want to.
Like, HELLO! The agency at Parklane did not even ask for 1-frigging-thousand…
He continued trying to “smoke” me.
Then, he said I only needed to pay $500.
And so, I wondered why he could just bring the price to $500…
So I act-like-interested,
and asked more bout what I’ll get from the $500.
“$500 for 30 photos.”
“Oh… Then what about the hair and make-up and photographer?”
“Natural. We want natural look. So no hairstylist and no make-up artist.”
Now, I’m like thinking…
What the fuck? I pay $500 for a photographer? The photographer must be damn good!
So obviously, the next question…
“Who’s the photographer?”
“I’ll be bringing you outdoors to take your photos.”
Yea, fuck off and don’t waste my time.
No?
—-
I thought about the entire thang on my way home.
He persisted in trying to get me to join their his company :
1. He showed me ads of him. (by ads, I mean many ads… -.-)
(I asked him whether he had ads of his models,
and his answer is splendid…
“My company has been around for 20years, you expect me to keep? My office already looks like a warehouse, if I keep theirs, I’ll be working in a library!”)
2. He kept trying to give me a good package:
First, he said I’ll pay $300 today, take the pictures on Thursday, then pay the remaining $200 when I collect my pix.
I refused.
So, he said he’ll collect $100. I’ll pay in installments of $100. Take pictures after the second installment. When I’m done paying, I can collect my pictures.
I still refused.
He told me to pay in installments of $50. blah blah blah.
(In my mind, I’m like thinking : “ARGH! Just fuck off can?! grrrr”)
THEN, he told me to pay in installments of $10. blah blah blah.
He BLOODY REFUSED to let me go (despite having others “queueing” for interview”)
Guess what I did?
I gave him $10 to shut him up.
He took the money, gave me a receipt, took pictures of me.
BUT HE STILL REFUSED TO LET ME GO.
He tried to get me to PROMISE to go back the following day.
(yea, like please go to waitlonglongfortherestofyourlife.com can?)
3. He keeps saying that “I am pretty. Don’t let it go to waste.”
Thank you for that,
Baby tells me that as well, just minus the second sentence.
4. He keeps saying that IF I get my pictures done by Thursday, I’ll be able to go for casting next week.
Do I look idiotic?
So what if you’ve taken pictures with “BIG STARS”,
not like Mediacorp is yours for you to have casting everyday.
…
…
…
I knew I am NOT going to pay that amount,
even if I have the money.
I am not desperate to be a model.
AND I was there to just find out what they really have.
—-
When I got home, I checked the internet.
This was what I found by typing :
“Eddie Goh”+”new experience”+”Lorong Limau” in Google.
People were cheated.
And I wonder,
Why is he able to continue in this line?!
*frowns*
Oh yes,
He called me today to head down to pay $300.
“Don’t want.”
“Huh?! Why don’t want?”
“Don’t want.”
“Don’t want to be model already?”
“Don’t want.”
“Don’t want to pay a single cent is it?”
“Don’t want.”
“Singapore don’t have free things one.”
“Don’t want.”
“You so pretty. Don’t let it go to waste.”
*rolls eyes* “Don’t want.”
blah blah blah blah blah… …
“Don’t want.”
blah blah blah blah blah… …
“Don’t want.”
blah blah blah blah blah… …
“Don’t want.”
blah blah blah blah blah… …
Like, “Oh fuck! What the fuck did I get myself into?! Now, Jasmine… DON’T VENTURE INTO SUCH TYPE OF JOB INTERVIEW EVER AGAIN.”
Janise was beside me.
And she laughed at my response.
Imagine having a person beside you replying “Don’t want.” throughout a conversation!
So, as a WARNING…

On the other hand,
If you really really really want to be a model…
SHINE looks fine to me.
(BUT I don’t know if there are any shiat behind the scenes..)
P.S. Pardon me for this unorganised post. I just decided to inform people of this… Now I know how to “detect” “potential scammers”… hurhur

Little Miss Fun says: I’m glad I “saved” someone!
Do pass this on so that people don’t get conned too! He is one psycho, really. He kept calling me from the time I went, till last July – when I threatened to report his number to the police for nuisance call. I even noted the date and time he called! LOL

today eddie koh advertised in the straits times’ classifieds ad again. dropped him an sms and when he replied with the address of his ‘modeling agency’, i got suspicious. what with a HDB address located in whampao… i decided to do a google check on him and it turns out that he is indeed one of your typical modeling scammer. pay up for a portfolio before we ‘advertise’ you to our clients. never ever fall for these people. even if they *did* managed to do some form of modeling or advertising for clients. they were probably just lucky.
i wonder how did he managed to get nominated. what rubbish. http://www.soe.org.sg/files/interview2008.php?i=318&a=&c=&year=2008

Yea, eddie goh is nothing but a no moral-or-social-conduct-that-would-do-anything-to-earn-an-extra-dollar kinda person. And he is FATHER of 2 young kids, i really pity his children, learning from a pro crook like himself. Stay away from him. He took my money and never gave me pics.
EDDIE GOH = NEW EXPERIENCE = SCAM!!!!!!

How do I stop the calls and sms from coming in?:(
Little Miss Fun says: hey babe, I didn’t answer his calls for quite a bit, but they’re quite persistent. I did the above, “Don’t want.” to everything he said. Eventually told him I’m making a police report for harrassment if he called again. That did it. You could try…
Take care babe!
