The Scholar and the Boatman

Once upon a time, there lived a scholar who had mastered many languages, the ancient scriptures, including the Vedas, arguably the oldest surviving texts in the world, epic literary works and so on. He was unparalleled among his peers and he was very proud of himself.

One day, he wanted to cross a river and hired a boatman. Sneering silently at the boatman’s lowly profession, the scholar asked him, “Have you ever studied the Vedas?”

The boatman said matter-of-factly, “No, I am not educated and I cannot read or write…”

Pouncing on this response, the scholar snickered, “Oh, you have wasted one-fourth of your life time by not knowing the Vedas!”

Not content to end it there, the scholar continued, “What about the great epics then? Have you ever listened to them?”

The boatman replied, “I have no time to read the epics as I leave for work very early in the morning to ferry people across the river and return home very late…”

To this the scholar said, “Oh, you have wasted half of your life time by not listening to the great epics!”

The scholar continued, “Have you at least known languages other than your mother tongue?”

To which the boatman said he never travelled outside his native land and hence, had no opportunity to learn other languages. The scholar said, “Oh, then you have wasted three-fourths of your life time…”

By this time, the boat had covered half the distance and it was in the middle of the river. The boatman noticed that water was entering through a small hole in the boat.

He asked the scholar, “Oh, respected scholar! Do you know swimming?”

The scholar replied, “I have no time to waste in learning swimming. I can just pay a small charge and cross the river at any time.”

The boatman said, “Oh respected scholar! By not knowing swimming, you have wasted your whole life time. The boat is going to sink very soon. I’m exhausted from rowing and only have the strength to swim to the bank myself?”

*pukes*

i did dinner with baby yesterday,
at VivoCity Carl’s Jr.

i felt queasy after that.
felt uber uncomfortable.
):

headed home to finish studying for my biochemistry.

like i said,
i felt uber uncomfortable.
headed to the toilet to see if it’ll help.

i had diarrhoea.
3 times within 10mins?

my asshole hurt so bad after that.

had a few sips of water.
and the next thing i know,
i was bent over the toilet bowl (not the one i diarrhoea-ed in!) and vomitting.

i haven’t vomitted in a damn long time can!
like the last time i vomitted was pri6??
*roars*

i was done with cramping all the biochem shiat at bout 1am…
or rather,
i gave the last few sets of notes up.

i went to bed feeling hot…
(not hot and sexy, but hot and frigging uncomfortable…)

i woke up at 3.30am,
feelin damn bad.

so bad that i just cried cuz i felt so frigging uncomfortable.
my body was aching like mad!
):

i decided to get a drink.
i drank half a cuppa water.
and i was bent over the toilet bowl again.
*sobs*

i woke up this morning feelin slightly better.
but still uncomfortable.

my body was still aching like crapp.

i completed the biochemistry paper in 1.5hours!
others were still scribbling away then…
and they had so much to write!
):

i headed to the doctor’s after the paper.
mummy sent me there.
i had to wait 1.5hours!
really felt like screaming at everyone -
why is everyone sick!

the doctor said i’ve got stomach flu.
*sobs*
a couple of others have got stomach flu too.
sigh…

i still don’t feel well!
*sulks*
*stomps feet*
*pulls hair*

P.S.S. i just found out that i got 70/100 for my 2nd biochem test… how amazing! but i screwed me 1st test up, so all i all i only got 23/40 in total for the tests… each test makes up 20%… eeeew. i don’t wanna re-do this module again! *shudders*
