how do i live?
how do i live?
“Computers are so much a part of modern life that we hardly notice them. But computers are everywhere, and we’d certainly notice them if they suddenly stopped working. Imagine…
You wake up with the sun well above the horizon and realise your alarm clock hasn’t gone off. You wonder if you’ve overslept. You have a big research project due today. The face of your digital wristwatch stares back at you blankly. The TV and radio are no help; you can’t find a station on either one. You can’t even get the time by telephone because the phone doesn’t work either.
The morning newspaper is missing from your doorstep. You’ll have to guess the weather forecast by looking out the window.
No music to dress by this morning, as your CD player and your MP3 player refuses to be programmed.
Your microwave oven is on strike too.
You decide to go our for breakfast. You car won’t start. In fact, the only cars moving are at least 15 years old.
The lines at the subway are unbelievable. People chatter nervously about the failure of the subway’s computer-controlled scheduling device.
You duck into the coffeeshop and find long lines of people waiting while cashiers clumsily handle transactions by hand. While you’re waiting, you join the conversation that’s going on around you. People seem more interested in talking to each other in person since all the usual tools of communication have failed.
You’re down to a couple of dollars in cash, so you stop after breakfast at an automated teller machine. Why bother?
You return home to wait for the book you ordered online. You’re in for a long wait ; planes aren’t flying because air traffic control facilities aren’t working.
You head for the local library to see if the book is in stock. Of course, it’s going to be tough to find since the book catalog is computerised.
As you walk home, you speculate on the implications of a worldwide computer failure. How will people function in high-tech, high-rise office buildings that depend on computer systems to control everything from elevators to humidity?
Will electric power plants be able to function without computer control?
What will happen to patients in computerised medical facilities?
What about satellites that are kept in orbit by computer-run control systems?
Will the financial infrastructure collapse without computers to process and communicate transactions?
Will the world be a safer place if all computer-controlled weapons are grounded?
Our story could go on, but the message should be clear enough by now. Computers are everywhere, and our lives are affected in all kinds of ways by their operation and nonoperation. It’s truly amazing that computers have infiltrated our lives so throughly in such a short time (about five decades).”

I came across this in my textbook for my computing module.
I thought about how I would live without computers…
I have a non-digital watch (phew…) – I got it repaired recently (double phew…)
My family owns a 20 year-old car (heheh…) – but you need a “remote control”(?) to unlock it… (uh-oh…)
I’m dependent on my lappy (to do work, to BLOG, to… …. …) *glp*
I’m not dependent on air-con, but I’m dependent on a fan… *panics*
“First we shape our tools, thereafter they shape us.” – Marshall McLuhan
how true that is…
I can’t live without computers…
sigh…

“How do I get through one night without you
If I had to live without you
What kind of life would that be
Oh I, I need you in my arms
Need you to hold
You’re my world, my heart, my soul
If you ever leave
Baby you would take away everything good in my life
And tell me now
How do I live without you
I want to know
How do I breathe without you
If you ever go
How do I ever, ever survive
How do I
How do I
Oh, how do I live
Without you, there’d be no sun in my sky
There would be no love in my life
There’d be no world left for me
And I, oh Baby, I don’t know what I would do
I’d be lost if I lost you
If you ever leave
Baby you would take away everything real in my life
And tell me now
How do I live without you
I want to know
How do I breathe without you
If you ever go
How do I ever, ever survive
How do I
How do I
Oh, how do I live
Please tell me baby
How do I go on
If you ever leave
Baby you would take away everything
Need you with me
Baby don’t you know that you’re everything good in my life
And tell me now
How do I live without you
I want to know
How do I breathe without you
If you ever go
How do I ever, ever survive
How do I
How do I
Oh, how do I live
how do I live without you
how do I live without you baby
how do I live….”
-LeAnn Rimes, How Do I Live?
P.S. the song’s got nothing to do with my entry about living without computers…
a fun-filled day
“On a sunny Saturday morning, I woke up in excitement. We (= my boyfriend and I) were bringing my sister to Sentosa – to teach her how to cycle… … …”
such a primary school-ish title and introduction…
LOL
anyway anyway…
indeed,
I brought my sister out to Sentosa on Saturday;
to teach her how to cycle. (really)

That’s my sister on the bike (before we start off).

that’s my sister with the Victory sign -
she now knows how to cycle properly!
baby and i found out that…
my sister does know how to cycle,
she’s just not confident enough.
so my sister isn’t that bad…
she’s got some of my daddy’s genes!
(my mummy doesn’t dare cycle,
though she’s a good driver… LOL)
we were at the siloso bike rental shop.
there’s a “fountain” in front of that shop.
so…

i’m trying to remove the bicycle oil(?) from my sister’s calf…
i know i’m such a nice sister…aaaaw…

here’s a picture of us…
we haven’t taken a picture in a long time…
hmmmm…
we then went on the chairlift.
(:

that’s cheryl (my sister) and me!

another picture of us (again)

uh…cheeky jassy?
LOL

cuz baby had two free tix for 4d magix…
(now you see why we were on the chairlift…)

we headed to catch 4d magix.
still the same thang,
but still a good experience!

the christmas tree at the entrance!
christmas is coming!!
(:

two blind mice?

two COOL blind mice??

another two blind mice…
LOL

this is how the screen looks without the making-one-look-blind-specs…
it’s a good experience at 4d magix cuz you feel, see, hear what is going on.
FEEL + SEE + HEAR…
when there’s breeze, you feel it.
when there’s birds flying, you hear and feel the feathers ruffling(?).
when there’s bees and bats, you see them right before you.
go experience if yourself!
(:

baby and i then sent my sister to Pasir Ris -
my cousin’s…
the car was ours for the day!
wheeeeeeeeeee…
we then headed to Tampines Mall and Century Square.
we shopped around.
i felt like we were newly wedds!
(:
the day was splendidly lovely!
‘cept for the summon…
